City breaks

Who doesn't love a city break? Inexpensive and accessible enough to allow most of us to fit around our annual holiday plans, these quick breaks transports us into the heart of another culture. Europe is bursting with city break destinations. Italy alone boasts some of the most popular city break destinations in the world. With Europe on our doorstep and just an hour or two away by plane and train, we are spoilt for choice. Choose from classic city destinations such as Paris, Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, Barcelona, Madrid, and Nice. For something a little different, try Scandinavia and Eastern Europe with cities such as Copenhagen, Stockholm, Reykjavik, Krakow and Prague.

For a more exotic city break, head to Marrakech or the glittering and glamourous Dubai - one of the most luxurious places in the world. This cosmopolitan city is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world, where world-class shopping, luxurious hotels, Eastern-influenced food and traditional souks make it the ideal place to stay. An increasingly popular alternative is nearby Abu Dhabi.

Enjoy an American city break in New YorkLas Vegas, San Francisco or Los Angeles. Experience the diverse cultures of New York City and its overpowering energy - you will want to explore every avenue. Or stay in a themed hotel in the glittering oasis of Las Vegas. Make the most of the gambling tables to the white-knuckle rides in this casino in the desert. San Francisco and LA have long been global cultural hubs and are must-see destinations.

8th February 2021 by Stuart

It's Chriiiiiiiiiiistmmaaaaaaaaasss!! Well, no actually, it isn't. But if you could see my inbox - full up with countless snowy and festive wintery travel deals - you'd definitely think it was close. September is clearly the month for change: hazy sunshiney memories begin to take a backseat, superseded by thoughts of wintery getaways. With all this in mind, and added to the fact it's often more advantageous to beat the rush and book your Chrimbo break early, we're celebrating with a whole...

The Scoop: Copenhagen

28th June 2023 by Stuart

Denmark and its capital hold the dubious honour of being touted as the happiest places on the planet. A 3-night break is a perfect amount of time to get to grips with the city and work out whether you agree. When to go? Pretty much any time from sunny, breezy spring through to hygge-inducing autumn and twinkly, tasteful Christmas. The largest crowds and the best festivals are in July and August, but this also brings the highest costs/rates. Temperatures rarely reach the mid-20s and so the...

Barcelona is one of the most popular tourist city destinations in the world. Its streets are always full of people, regardless of the season. It is a favourite city break destination for British tourists: famous because of its good weather, its delicious Mediterranean food and its spectacular architecture - cradle of artists as important as Gaudí. But Barcelona is much more than a simple tourist city. Probably, most of you already know the typical and always crowded tourist streets, monuments,...

Travel diary: Two days in Oslo

20th January 2021 by Stuart

Norway. Vast pine forests, stunningly beautiful fjords, clear air and prosperous people. It's a winter wonderland and a summertime adventure playground. But if you're anything like me, Oslo has never featured especially highly on your 'bucket-list' (yes, I hate that phrase too!) As it turns out, that was exactly why I ended up choosing to go there! Let me take you back... Black Friday 2017: Ryanair (gulp!) - attempting to claw back a little dignity after their monumental flights cock-up...

Getting around Amsterdam

4th March 2021 by Europe a la Carte

One of the surprising things for the first-time visitor that separates Amsterdam from other European cities is the fact that the central areas see very little in the way of traffic congestion simply because cars are not very practical in a city that is crisscrossed by numerous canals. Because of this many visitors find it more practical to walk around the relatively small tourist areas of this city.Amsterdam on footWalking in Amsterdam is a very pleasant experience allowing you to take in all...
