Bustling with life in summer and breathtakingly beautiful in winter, Prague city breaks entice visitors throughout the year. Short breaks visitors come back time and again to experience this beautiful medieval city where modernity and tradition meet over the longest Czech river, the Vltava River, which flows into the Elbe.
The Czech Republic's ancient capital is the site of the world's largest medieval castle, and no visit Prague weekend break would be complete without a visit to this fairytale architectural complex. Numerous renovations have turned the palace into a wonder, and now comprises several buildings and monuments well worth visiting.
Make time during your Prague short break to sample the city's traditional beer halls and fashionable cocktail bars. Prague has every type of bar you can imagine, from traditional to trendy, many of which serve food including the traditional Eastern European menu of meat, sauerkraut, dumplings and soups.

Prague Sights
To take in as much as possible during your Prague city break why not start in the Old Town square (Staromestske Namesti) with its ornate buildings and pavement cafes? Leaving the 12th Century square behind take the Charles Bridge spanning the River Vltava across to the Castle District, to the Royal Palace and St Vitus Cathedral before taking the Coronation Route to the city museums.
Prague's evening entertainment boasts theatres, classical music venues, opera and cinemas enough to please any visitor. Ticket prices are among the lowest in europe and it is possible to see contemporary, classical and avant garde theatre for a fraction of the price it costs in the UK.
Eating and drinking in Prague
On a Prague short break the trick to eating out is to enjoy the same good quality and value food as the locals do. Act like you're a regular; if there's no menu on display, move on to the next place. Ordering in Czech will save you money and taste exactly the same! Goulash with dumplings is just one of the hearty and robust traditional Czech foods that you will find being served in local eateries. Just don't expect to watch your waistline during you're Prague city break!
The Czech people love their beer, and Prague plays host to a huge selection of delicious and unusual ales. Most visitors on Prague weekend breaks take time to visit some of the city's famous beer cellars and sample Urquell, the excellent local pilsner. You will also find some excellent jazz and blues clubs here in which to enjoy a few tasty beers.
Shopping in Prague
Prague weekend breaks and shopping go hand in hand. The area around Wenceslas Square and the streets surrounding Stare Mesto are the main shopping areas. Watch out for imported goods as these tend to be expensive, but you can often find great bargains amongst local Czech goods; a trip to the Old Town square markets is great for crystal, glassware, wooden toys and porcelain.
