In Alberobello, why not try one of the local restaurants housed in an ancient trullo, where you will find the delicious handmade orecchiette (little ears) pasta for which the region is famous. Also try the salami-topped bruschetta, which go well with a glass of the local white wine.
Shopping
The winding streets and trulli houses of Alberobello are home to many little shops selling handcrafted goods and individual souvenirs. The local olives and olive oil can be purchased throughout the region and enjoyed once back home. The region’s capital city, Bari, is home to some of the most elegant boutiques and designer shops, so enjoy some window shopping down the Via Sparano.
Where To Stay
  • Locorotondo is one of the region’s prettiest areas in the Itria valley, famed for its white wine and trullo houses set amongst olive groves. For a true Puglian experience, stay in one of the traditional trullo offering simple and relaxing self-catering accommodation.
  • Fasano is a fascinating and picturesque town, surrounded by beautiful countryside and excellent beaches. In this area you will find a choice of ancient masserie (farmhouses), which have been beautifully converted into chic and contemporary country retreats, offering luxurious accommodation in idyllic surroundings.
  • Ostuni, the beautiful whitewashed hill town, offers many excellent restaurants and chic bars and is popular during the summer months. Ostuni Marina is the stretch of coastline beneath the city walls, which offers white sandy beaches and clear blue waters of this part of the Adriatic Sea.
  • Torre Canne, formerly a fishing village, is now an attractive seaside resort with fine golden sandy beaches. Typically Italian in style, the resort offers a traditional family beach holiday on this part of the Adriatic coast.
Things To Do
  • Take a leisurely drive around the olive-dotted countryside around pretty Fasano, where you will find many local masserie producing wine and olive oil.
  • See the town of Matera, just into Basilicata region, where cave dwellings are carved out of the mountainside, is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is worth a visit just to experience this magical place, deservedly favoured by film directors.
  • Take a few moments to watch the local women making the orrechiette pasta by hand, in the town of Alberobello.

Visit in spring, when the countryside is green and the weather is warm, to see fields polkadotted with wild flowers.
