- Overview
For a country so small, Switzerland’s diversity is huge. With enormous scenic variation from alpine glaciers to palm fringed lakes, medieval cities to panoramic mountains. Switzerland is the ideal destination for anyone with a love of the great outdoors.
Shopping
Head to Geneva’s Old Town for shopping; department stores can be found along the ‘Ruse Basses’, as can antique shops, while Rue du Rhone has more select boutiques. Lucerne and Montreux specialise in smaller boutiques and markets, and Montreux particularly is the place to be for designer clothes. While Interlaken has some department stores, it’s the traditional crafts that draw buyers to the fine linen, hand-made chocolates and famous wooden carvings.
Eating and Drinking
Traditional Swiss fare is the order of the day. Head to the lakefront in Geneva and Montreux and stroll along the pleasant promenade where there are a variety of cafes, or in Geneva try fondue and raclette at the Edelweiss Restaurant. Afternoon tea is perfect in Interlaken’s Café Schuh, with its mouth-watering Swiss pastries, while an evening meal at one of the riverside restaurants in Lucerne, overlooking the famous Chapel Bridge is a wonderful end to the day.
