Holidays to Oslo

Oslo may be small as capital cities go, but there is plenty to do and see here. Take advantage of the waterfront setting and view the city from the sea. The bustling harbour comes to life on long summer nights and if a day's sightseeing and shopping proves too much, relax in one of the many leafy parks.

Oslo's nautical past should be traced through the Viking Ships Museum and the Kon-Tiki Museum. Book a fjord sightseeing excursion or a coach and boat tour before you go. For an ideal view point over the sea walk along the walls of the ancient fortress of Akerhus. The Munch Museum and the famous National Art Gallery are superb and for shopping, try Oslo City (116 shops and restaurants) and Aker Brygge not forgetting the tax refund (paid on departure). Most shops close around 3pm on Saturday and all day on Sundays but open until around 9pm on Thursday. Highly recommended is the Vigeland Sculpture Park, one of the largest open-air exhibitions of over 190 sculptures.
