Insider Tip

Explore some of the smaller villages in the hills around Sorrento, such as Sant'Agata, where you will find friendly locals and authentic restaurants.

This area is famed for the production of the delicious milky, mozzarella di bufala. You will find this on many restaurant menus, either served with delicious proscuitto or as a salad with tomatoes, known as caprese salad. Try also the gnocchi alla Sorrentina, little potato dumplings in a creamy tomato sauce.

For a fine dining experience in Sorrento, the Il Buco restaurant is one of the best addresses in town, or try some of the authentic trattorias around the Marina Grande if you like fresh fish. The Bar Fauna on Corso Italia, is one of the most popular spots for people-watching, and enjoying an after-dinner coffee or drink.

The lovely iced Limoncello lemon liqueur is made locally and must be sampled before you go home.

In the old town of Sorrento, the narrow cobbled side streets are brimming with shops selling local souvenirs, whereas the smart Corso Italia is filled with elegant stores and designer boutiques for that special purchase. Lace, furniture and pottery are all good buys here and among the most renowned of their kind in Europe.
